Professional profile

José Carlos Gil Araújo is a dynamic and seasoned financial translator with over ten years of experience who is fully devoted to his work. His passion for Greco-Latin languages, having emerged at a very young age, was what first brought him into contact with the translation world.

He earned his Degree in Translation and Interpreting at the University of Valladolid, Spain, and, while doing doctorate work at the University of Granada in the Cognitive Science of Translation, he was presented with the opportunity to join a multinational Japanese company based in Amsterdam, NL, as a in-house translator, which he accepted. Following several years of experience during which his professional profile began to take shape, he decided to invest his expertise in his own business endeavour, JC Gil Financial Translations, which would later evolve into Bluebird Translations.

As a translation buff, he holds seminars and provides LSPs and freelancers with advisory services on translation technology, and he never misses an opportunity to attend conferences and courses in the pursuit of sharing his knowledge and expanding his expertise. Apart from managing the blog for Bluebird Translations and collaborating with the ITI Bulletin and La Linterna del Traductor, he actively supports the community of translators with whom Bluebird share their office space.

Laura Farrés Tarrés is a technical translator who knew early on what professional career she wanted to pursue. She grew up among books and texts her mother used to revise, which awoke her interest in languages.

She earned a Degree in Translation and Interpreting from the Autonomous University of Barcelona after studying for a full academic year at Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan, where she had the opportunity to deepen her knowledge of the Japanese language, culture and history, and started her career as a technical translator for Japanese brands.

Then she had the opportunity to continue her career at Bluebird Translations thanks to her technical expertise and a program organized by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport allowing University graduates to pursue internships abroad. After the fruitful experience of the program, Laura joined the team, and now works alongside José and María on a daily basis from their office located in the heart of Amsterdam.

María García Díaz is an engaged translator with a diversified training who was confident in her decision to study translation and interpreting, as this would allow her to satisfy her two major interests: to communicate in other languages and to find out about other countries and cultures.

She had the opportunity to spend one year of her studies at the University of Sorbonne Nouvelle in Paris. Once she had earned her Degree in Translation and Interpreting at the University of Córdoba, she was awarded a position through a state selection process to work at an academic institution in Nottingham, United Kingdom.

Due to her active interest in translation, María met J.C. Gil at an event held by the United Kingdom’s most prestigious association of translators and interpreters, the ITI, and they decided to begin a professional collaboration. This ‘virtual’ collaboration generated such a substantial workload that J.C. Gil offered María the opportunity to join Bluebird Translations in Amsterdam, which she accepted without hesitation.
